Grundy County Parole and Probation
Two state bodies have separate roles in a Grundy County supervision case. The Tennessee Board of Parole decides eligible parole matters and handles revocation proceedings. Tennessee Department of Correction Community Supervision manages people on parole and many people on probation after release or placement. A person may therefore have a Board decision, a TDOC supervision record, and a court case at the same time. Those records answer different questions.
Parole is conditional community release before the prison sentence expires. The Board can grant it, but TDOC still requires an approved release plan and completion of release processing. Probation is a court-ordered community sentence. It may begin without a prison term, or after split confinement, which combines confinement with community supervision. Neither status means that the sentence has been discharged. The comparison keeps the agency, starting event, and proof in view.
The official Tennessee parole hearing overview shows why a hearing event must be separated from Grundy County release proof.
The Board process can lead to a decision, but the later TDOC status and release record establish whether confinement actually ended.
| Point | Parole | Probation |
|---|---|---|
| How it begins | Board-authorized release before sentence expiration | Court-ordered community disposition, sometimes after split confinement |
| Who supervises | TDOC Community Supervision | TDOC Community Supervision for covered cases |
| Useful public record | FOIL status, hearing fields, and later release record | FOIL status plus the judgment or probation order |
| How it ends | Discharge, sentence end, or Board action after the term | Completion or discharge under the governing court and TDOC record |
- Parole
- Conditional release from confinement before the sentence ends.
- Probation
- A community sentence ordered by a court and enforced through stated conditions.
- Discharge
- The formal end of an active correction or supervision status.
- Absconder
- A person alleged to have stopped reporting or left supervision without authorization.
Verify Grundy County Release Supervision
The main public lookup is TDOC Felony Offender Information Lookup, known as FOIL. It covers felony offenders currently or formerly in TDOC custody or supervision. The search offers name, TDOC ID, and State ID modes. A result can show supervision status, assigned location, sentence data, release eligibility, and parole hearing fields. FOIL is stronger than a current jail roster for this question because a supervised person has already left the displayed prison or jail confinement.
Use the complete record. An assigned location in Jasper may be a field office, not a jail. “Parole” or “Probation” supports an active community status, while “Inactive” may mean active TDOC custody or supervision ended. Inactive does not explain the reason by itself. Read it with the sentence end date, active sentences, release information, and court record.
- Search FOIL by the full name. Use a known TDOC ID or State ID when possible, since a common name may match more than one person.
- Compare the birth date, aliases, identifier, offenses, and other identity data before choosing a Grundy County supervision record.
- Read Supervision Status and Assigned Location together. Save the sentence, release, and hearing fields shown on the same record.
- Check the court judgment when the question is whether probation was ordered, modified, completed, or revoked.
- Contact the assigned TDOC field office for agency routing or clarification after the correct record has been identified.
For a county-only booking that never entered TDOC custody or supervision, call Sheriff Heath Gunter's office instead. The local release record may show a bond, transfer, or time-served event that FOIL will not capture. The full county release path is set out on the Grundy County released inmates search.
Note: Record the date of each FOIL check because court documents and agency actions can change status and sentence fields.
Grundy County Supervision Office Route
Grundy County belongs to TDOC Community Supervision District 30. The district also serves Bledsoe, Bradley, Hamilton, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, Polk, Rhea, and Sequatchie counties. The official directory groups Grundy with Marion County and lists the field office in Jasper. That matters when a FOIL result names a location outside Altamont. The office location can reflect who manages community supervision, not where the person is confined.

Office staff can route a question about an already identified record, confirm which field office serves it, or explain reporting logistics that the directory publishes. They should not be treated as a public roll of everyone under supervision. Have the full name, TDOC ID if known, and exact FOIL status ready. Confidential case-management details may not be available to a caller.
Jasper Reporting After Grundy Release
The Jasper office is a key local detail, not merely a generic statewide contact. TDOC's Types of Release information says a probationer must report within 48 hours after placement on probation or release from split confinement. The named office and time rule make direct contact important when the written order or release papers identify District 30.
Determinate release is another supervised status. Tennessee uses it for qualifying felony sentences of at least one year but no more than two years, subject to the statutory notice and objection process. Community Supervision for Life is distinct again and applies after the underlying prison, parole, or probation term for offenses specified in Tenn. Code Ann. § 39-13-524. A short label should never be read as unrestricted release.
People supervised through an interstate compact can follow a different record route. FOIL help points out-of-state parole and probation inquiries toward the TBI-linked supervision registry. Start with the record that identifies the governing state rather than assuming District 30 controls every person now living in Grundy County.
Note: A Jasper assigned location may identify the supervising office even when the person lives in Grundy County.
Grundy County Supervision Violations
Conditions are the rules attached to release or a community sentence. Their exact terms come from the parole certificate, probation order, and TDOC case record. A suspected breach may lead to a warrant, detention, a preliminary probable-cause hearing, and a final revocation hearing. Those are stages, not interchangeable findings. An allegation should not be described as a proven violation.
An absconder label generally means the person is alleged to have stopped reporting or left supervision without authorization. It does not erase the earlier release. It also does not prove the person's current location. Check FOIL for the present status, ask the responsible office about the correct verification channel, and check the holding jail or Board proceeding when the record indicates a warrant or detention.
The Board's hearing categories add context. A preliminary revocation hearing tests probable cause. A final hearing can lead to revocation or reinstatement. A custodial hearing may concern parole from one sentence to another, so even a favorable result may leave the person in custody. Use the event's exact label and then look for a later FOIL or release record.
Grundy County Reentry Program History
University of the South documents describe a historical partnership with the Grundy jail that focused on recovery, education, rehabilitation, and HiSET or GED tutoring. That local work gives useful context for release planning and the transition to supervision. It does not establish that a specific service is open now, that a person qualifies, or that TDOC has assigned the program as a condition.
The source material is historical rather than a current enrollment notice. Confirm any present offering with the Grundy County Sheriff's Office or the University before relying on it. Program participation and supervision are also separate records. A reentry class can support a transition, while FOIL and the assigned District 30 office remain the sources for active parole or probation status.
The local history is documented in the Sewanee service-site descriptions and a University community-engagement filing. Dates and program terms in those records should be read as evidence of past work, not a promise of current service.
Note: Confirm current reentry services before planning around an older program description.
Grundy County Supervision Discharge Records
Supervision ends through the governing sentence, court, Board, and TDOC process. A completed term may appear as an inactive FOIL status with sentence data, but the public label alone may not state the exact authority. FOIL is also not complete for every out-of-state supervision case. For a precise answer, obtain the court order, TDOC certificate, discharge record, or other existing agency record tied to the identified person.
A Letter of Discharge is stronger proof for a state sentence than a forecast or old hearing entry. TDOC policy describes a formal discharge letter at sentence expiration and release-day records used during processing. Parole and probation may instead end through the documents that govern those forms of supervision. Ask for the record by name and date range. Do not ask an office to create a new conclusion from scattered files.
Tennessee VINE can report a custody change, yet it is not a complete historic supervision ledger. A saved alert should be read with the reporting agency and event. When an exact Grundy County release or supervision end matters, match the notice to FOIL, the Jasper office, and the court or TDOC record that created the change.
